Jim Corbett National Park is one such national wildlife reserve which is situated at the foothills of Himalayan belt. It is India’s first National Park and tiger reserve. It is one of the oldest national parks which was established in 1936 by the name of Hailey National Park. It spreads over an area of 521 sq kms. The park is situated in the Nainital district of Uttrakhand. It is one of the best ecotourism spot which contains 488 species of plants, a large variety of flora and also considered as the protected reserve area for Royal Bengal tigers and Asiatic elephants. Other than that you will also see a variety of other animal species which includes leopards, Nilgai, Deer, Sambar deer, Sloth Bear, King Cobra, Flying Fox, Indian Pangolin and many more. The park is famous for the presence of Royal Bengal tigers. Among the 44 tiger reserves in the country this park has maximum numbers of tigers whose number goes to 215. There are four entrance gates of this park- Amdanda gate, Khara gate, Durga Devi gate and Dhangarhi gate.
Best Time and Zones to Visit Jim Corbett National Park

The park remains open from mid of November to mid of June. However there are different zones which remains open at different time for the visitors which are as follows-
Jhirna Zone opens for all the year. It is home to tigers, elephants and sloth bear.
Birjani Zone opens from mid of October to mid of June months. It offers an excellent opportunity to see the tigers. You will also see a large variety of sal trees, a variety of herbivores and three major grasslands.
Dhikala Zone welcomes the visitors from November 15 to mid of June. This is the largest zone in Corbett Park. This park also has Ramganga river flows through the middle of this zone. Along with Bengal tigers hog deers are also famous here.
Durga Devi Zone – This is a famous zone for bird watching and fishing a large fish species-‘Mahasheer’. Mangal and Ramganga rivers flow from this park which attracts tigers, elephants and leopards.
Sonanadi Zone – It is famous for flora and fauna. Along with tigers and elephants one can also watch leopards, sambhar, cheetal and raptiles.
However during the monsoon season the roads of Birjani and Dhikala gets washed away completely. The best time to see the variety of unknown birds is from October to February. There are various activities at Jim Corbett Park which includes Jungle Safari, fishing, rafting and wildlife photography.
