The City of Bhubaneswar is the finest city of Odisha. It is also the capita of the state. Best known for its architecture and ancient temples, the city has Buddhist and Hindu pilgrimage destination. It is also one of the oldest Cities in India. The city derived its name from Lord Shiva’s name tribhuneshwar. Since its inception the city has got many names such as Toshali, Nagar kalinga, kallinga Nagar, Ekamra Kanan are just to name a few.
History of Bhubaneswar
The history of the city takes us back in the ancient time. Back in 2nd century BC the city was known as Sisupalgarh and was ruled by Chedi dynasty. In 3rd century BC Great War of kalinga between Maurya and Kalinga dynasty took place here in this city. Ashoka won the Kalinga war here and it is the city that witness the change in him that he adopted Buddhism. During medieval period two great religions were introduce to this city, Jainism and Buddhism. Then come Brahmanism and Vaishnasism. During 11th and 12th century AD the city stated getting its glory for its sculptures and architecture. In 16th century Mughal took-over the city and then come the mighty Marathas. In 18th century British east India Company overpowered the local rulers and took over the region. In 1936 Odisha became a separate state and Cuttack became its capital. After some changes Bhubaneswar declared as the capital of Odisha.

The city of Bhubaneswar which is also known as the city of temple has more than thousands of temple with magnificent architecture holding glorious history. Being ruled by different dynasties with different religion belief the city has a melting pot of people following different beliefs. The major religion followed here are Jainism, Buddhism, Tantricism, Hinduism, Vaishnavism. Lord Jagannath is the deity of the city. Locals of the city generally speak in Oriya. The language is originated from Indo-Aryan section. The original resident of the city are aadivasi (tribe) which speaks in the ancient local tribal language. Dance and Music are the major part of any culture, The Odishi Dance, architecture, culture and music are some special form which are wider appreciated for its unique style. The famous odishi dance form is considered as a branch of Hindu classical music by historians. People celebrate festivals like Ekmara, Mukteswara Dance festival, kalinga mahotsav with same zeal. Women wears traditional sari and salwar kameez, men wears dhoti and kurta.

Best Places to Visit Bhubaneswar
The place is famous for caves and ruins of fort of 14th century. It is an ancient town which has various Buddhist establishments and sculptures.
It is believed that the place was built to bring human and gods together. The temple and the symbols designed here are giving the reflection of Vedic era which gives the idea of Hinduism.
Bhitarkanika National Park:
It is a huge wildlife park. It is surrounded by the Gahirmatha Beach and consists of estuaries, backwaters, creeks and Brahmani Baitrani Delta. You can get well-maintained tents here for accommodation. There are small stall also which offer only snacks and refreshments.

You can reach Bhubaneswar through well cluster of road by taking bus service from Kolkata, Hyderabad, Raipur, Ranchi and baripada.
The main railway station in the city is Bhubaneswar Railway Station. You can get any kind of trains from here such as superfast or passenger. The city is well connected with Guwahati, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai are many more major cities of the country.
