History
The Chennai Anjaneyar Temple history is not that very old. The foundation stone of the temple was laid in 1989. Later, the temple was opened to the public in 1995. Though it's not rich in history, the belief of the temple is based on the ancient Hindu mythology, the Ramayana. As a token of this Lord Rama, Sita and Laxmana are also worshiped here.
Architecture
The main attraction of the Anjaneyar temple is its huge Hanuman idol which is 32 feet tall and carved on a single granite piece. The temple tower of the deity is 90 feet tall and has corridors that connect the sanctum sanctorum to other deities.

As Hindu temples are worship spots, you can feel the spiritual atmosphere inside Anjaneyar, with its smell of flowers and camphor, a ring of bells, and chanting. Tips for visiting
- If you want to conduct a pooja, there is hoarding with the lists of poojas according to Hindu beliefs. The basic pooja starts from Rs 10/- and is known as Archana.
- According to the temple custom, they receive gold, silver, and textiles. You can also offer homam or fire sacrifice.
Best time to visit
The best time to visit the Anjaneyar temple is in the morning or evening, as the temple will be closed in between. Also, as Chennai has a hot temperate climate, it is advised to visit Chennai during the winter preferably from November to February.
