Read More on Annamalai Murugan Temple
History
Guru Karishnanandji, the temple's founder, was the ninth son of Nandi Gowder and Deviammal. He completed his schooling in the eighth grade. His studies had come to an end due to his lackluster performance and poor home circumstances. As he grew older, he began trading tea, which proved to be a dismal failure. The consequences were disastrous, as he became a raving lunatic with no direction.
He was forced to flee his home by an unknown entity in the 1970s. It was late at night, and the moon was fully formed. He found himself on top of a hill as soon as he opened his eyes. Today, the hill is known as Annamalai Hill. He spent the next three years of his life meditating in a cave after this occurrence. It is said that his inner voice told him to build this temple in honor of Lord Murugan one fine day. After that, in 1977, he performed the first Kumbabisekam rite, which was followed by rituals in 1989 and 2001. The rest is history, which is kept by the people of Ooty.
