History
According to the Asirgarh fort history, this fort was built by a Hindu Ahir king named Asa in the 15th century. A ruler of the Faruqui dynasty Nashir khan of Khandesh pleaded with Asa Ahir to give protection to his family members in the fort. Later Nashir Khan attacked the fort by permitting the entrance of some trained soldiers disguised as his family, with his family members. He killed Asa Ahir and his family members and took the fort under his rule.
According to Asirgarh Fort haunted story, people believed that the mighty warrior Ashwatthama of the epic Mahabharata roams in this fort and worships at the Shiva temple early in the morning. According to a legend, Lord Krishna cursed Ashwatthama to remain immortal and wander alone till the end of Kaliyuga. People claim that they have seen Ashwatthama in the night wandering around the Asirgarh Fort and they had found sandals and flowers at the Shiva temple early in the morning every day.

Stone, lead, and limestones are used in the construction of the fort. There are two major ponds inside the premise that worked as a major source of water, back in those days. The fort houses a mosque, a gurudwara, and a temple in its confines. There are some ruins of British structures and graves inside the fort.
