History
Tukoji Rao Holkar started building it in 1886, and his descendant Tukoji Rao Holkar finished it 35 years down the line, in 1921. Besides a rare coin accumulation dating all the way back to the Mughal era, it was once the abode of the reigning Holkar dynasty until 1978. This has become more of a museum, preserving several of the most precious items of the Marathas and the Holkar kingdom.
Architecture
Due to the multitude of Italian Corinthian columns, majestic high ceilings, rich Persian rugs, gliding emergers on the roof, Belgium smeared glass panels, Greek mythological works of art, Italian artwork, squished cheetahs and leopards, etc. The decor of this mansion will make you rethink and doubt that you are in India. Its hall includes a spring-mounted timber floor for added movement. The Palace's entrances are a copy of Buckingham Palace's gateways. They are, however, roughly twice their dimensions. The doors were constructed in England and delivered here. They also display the Holkar provincial insignia, which reads, "He who tries succeeds."
