About Ooty Lake Ooty

One of the most relaxing and lovely locations to visit in Ooty is Ooty Lake. It is located in the green hills of the Nilgiris district, roughly 2 kilometers from Ooty city. The magnificent lake, which covers 65 acres, was founded in 1824 by John Sullivan, the collector of Coimbatore.

Ooty Lake is surrounded by Eucalyptus trees and lush foliage, making it a wonderful spot to take in the scenery of this hill region. Numerous streams can also be seen running through the slopes. This is an ideal location for capturing people that are passionate about photography. With the picturesque Nilgiri mountain ranges in the background, the lake is teeming with gorgeous water birds.

Ooty Lake is a fun and activity-packed destination. The boathouse here rents out paddleboats, rowboats, and motorboats. A tiny railway is also available for children to board and take a quick tour around the lake. In May, there are boat races and other events held here for two days. Because weekends attract a large number of visitors, it is best to visit the lake during the week. Maine Pyaar Kiya's (1989) romantic ballad 'Dil Deewana' was also shot here, as were a few moments from Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani (2009).

History

Ooty Lake is a man-made lake that was established in 1824 by John Sullivan. Because there were so many water streams, the water running down the mountains was dammed up, forming a lake. The lake was built to be utilized for fishing, and ferries were used to cross it. It gradually shrank in size, allowing for the creation of the bus stand racecourse and the lake park that we see today. The lake was taken over by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation in 1973 on behalf of the Tourism Department, to provide boating facilities for visiting visitors as a tourist attraction.
