History

The construction was completed in 1747, and the southern portion of the palace was completed between 1811 and 1833 when it was devastated by fire. The palace was built by Muslim artisans from Mandu who came here to work. The palace was burned three times, with the most extensive damage occurring during the 1984 riots. Malhar Rao Holkar completed the Rajwada Palace in 1747.  Sarjerao Ghadge of the Sindhiya Dynasty set it on fire for the first time in 1801.

Between 1818 and 1826, the palace underwent reconstruction. A second fire broke out in 1834, destroying the uppermost level. The most recent blaze occurred in 1984. The original structure's front portion is now all that's left. The palace was recently rebuilt, and they have managed to restore some of its former magnificence.

Architecture

The Rajwada Palace was built in a style that is a mix of Maratha, Mughal, and French architecture. It has exquisite gardens, fountains, an artificial waterfall, as well as many more sculptures from the 11th century. Mughal ornamentation can be found on the balconies. The three levels of this amazing edifice, starting with the first floor, are made of stone, while the top floors are made of wood, making them susceptible to fire.

With Rajwada Palace, the design of this palace is inspired by Maratha architecture and attracts visitors. Its exquisite aesthetic splendor, vibrant details, and magnificent aisles and arcades. H.H Usha Raje Holkar restored the structure. Shreya Bhargava and Himanshu Dudwadkar, famous architects, created the new structure based on a 200-year-old blueprint. The Rajwada Palace is the country's first structure to be rebuilt in the same design and materials.
