History
There are numerous legends around the Sheetla Mata Mandir Gurgaon. Goddess Durga has incarnated as little Katyayani, according to one legend. Katyayani was the daughter of the sage who summoned all of the demons who were wreaking havoc on the planet with their nasty and wicked power. Sheetala Devi defeated the demons sent by Kaalkeya in her true form as Goddess Durga.
Jwarasur, the fever demon, began spreading an incurable disease among Katyayani's childhood companions. Cholera, dysentery, measles, smallpox, and other diseases were transmitted by him. Katyayani was the one who cured several of her friends, but she took the form of Goddess Sheetla to save the world from all kinds of fevers and diseases.
She had something in each of her four hands to protect the planet from fever and to slay the demon. A short broom, a winnowing fan, a jug of cold water, and a cup were in her hands. Sheetala Devi used her magic to heal all of the sick children.
Architecture
A concrete pathway takes you inside the temple's grounds once you pass through the entrance. The entrance is large enough to accommodate the crowds that swarm the temple during the festival. Further up, an arched structure stands in the middle, surrounded on one end by well-kept grass, and on the other, a modest temple containing other deities. The plants have also been set on high platforms with concrete borders, which serve as a resting area for pilgrims.
The sanctuary is designed as a long hallway leading to a small room, with the large hallway providing a view of the main deity and pilgrim seats. The region where the Sheetla Mata idol rests is reached via a short route lined by fences. The idol is enclosed in a room, and pilgrims are unable to approach it. Instead, they can offer their prayers through a window-like structure built at a distance from the idol.
