History
White Church is maybe the oldest church in all of Central India. This church, which was built during the British Raj in 1858 and completed on August 9th of that year, features a European style of construction. It was founded by the Indore Protestant community for Christians living in India as well as Army troops visiting the country at the time. It was originally known as St. Ann's Church but was later renamed White Church, owing to the white tint that has adorned the structure since that time.
Engineer Ross McMohan was the architect of this historic church. Sir Robert M C Hamilton, the agent of the then-Governor General of the British administration in India, oversaw the construction of the White Church. He, along with Sir Hugh Ross, was the one who pushed for accession in central India following the insurrection of 1857 as a resident of Indore. His statue was erected at the Khan River Bridge, which is now located in Indore's Lal Baug.
