Mehrangarh Fort, the huge and plush fort of India is standing with many glorious chapters from history. The fort was founded by Rajput Ruler in year 1459. This pride of Rajasthan, Mehrangarh Fort is built on the 1000-year-old Mandore fort. Fort of Mandore was gradually deteriorating and hence Rao Jodha led the foundation of Mehrangarh Fort. The Fort has seen many wars and faced many attacks right start from the Lodhi to Mughals to the British. The fort is an unmatchable part of Jodhpur’s history.

Mehrangarh Fort and Its Seven Majestic Entrances

To reach this huge fort, fort houses with seven gates. All these entrances bear the marks of various battles which changed the scenario of the city. The second gate of the fort still has the marks of cannon balls as it was hit by armies of Jaipur during the battles. The Jayapol gate is another entrance gate in the fort which means Victory Gate. It was built by Maharaja Man Singh to celebrate his victory over Bikaner and Jaipur armies.  There is one more gate named Fatehpol which means the victory has been established. It was built to mark the victory of Marwar over Mughals.

Fort Inside and Architecture

The fort is one of the most amazing pieces of Rajputi architecture. Intrigue carvings and beautiful architecture of the fort house a number of palaces and structure that stands as a perfect example of architectural excellence. The palaces in the fort are charming and standing with all majesties which are hurled by the kings of the pasts. One of the most amazing attractions of the palace is Moti Mahal – The Pearl Palace which is an amazing masterpiece of this fort. This palace is consists of Sringar Chowki, it was the royal throne of Jodhpur.

Mehrangarh Fort also consists of many temples and galleries that house many things related to the beautiful art and craft of the gone era. On the left side of the fort, you will see a chhatri of Soldier Kirat Singh who was a  brave and courageous army man. He gave his life in the batter against the kingdom of Amber and in his memory the chhatri was built.

Best Time To Visit Mehrangarh Fort

Nestled near the scorching Thar Desert, Jodhpur is a perfect place for culture, traditions with the mixture of ethnicity and modernity.
