The lal mahal Pune history is worth knowing. The foundation of the Lal Mahal was built by Shivaji's father, Shahaji Maharaj. The main motivation for constructing this massive tower was to help Pune quickly recover from its dire situation.
During that time, he held the post of Sultan of Bijapur. He was enthroned to rule over several Pune areas after conquering a few territories. This was the time when he felt compelled to build a palace for his living quarters. Lal Mahal eventually stood tall and proud in the year 1630 AD. This was his residential palace from then till he bought Torna Fort in 1645.

This fort was also where Maharashtra's brave son, Shivaji Maharaj, was raised.
This fort is linked to yet another narrative. Shivaji Maharaj and his regiment of 400 or more warriors captured the palace in April 1663 and executed Shaista Khan's son. In the same battle, Shivaji Maharaj used his sword to cut Shaista Khan's fingers off.

Lal Mahal Pune architecture is a treat to watch for history buffs. The main entrance is modelled after the Shiv - Kalin Forts' magnificent gateway. You arrive into an open manicured space with a statue of Bal Shivaji ploughing the land and Jijamata. The facade of the structure is based on Shiv - Kalin architectural vocabulary.

Murals illustrating Shivaji Maharaj's administrative abilities will be shown in the open to sky gallery on the bottom floor. The building's ground-floor hall has a statue of Jijamata, which is revered by many.
The first-floor hall will have paintings illustrating major events in Shivaji Maharaj's life, notably the Shahista Khan tragedy that occurred at this spot. Weapons, clothes, coins, utensils, and letters from Shivaji Maharaj's reign are also on display.

There is no special time to visit Lal Mahal because it is open 365 days a year. But if you want to visit, then try and go during the winter months between the months of October and March. The Summers can be a bit gloomy and hectic for the tourists as Pune can be very humid during those times.

The original Lal Mahal was destroyed, and the new Lal Mahal, which is located in the heart of Pune, is a restoration of the original. The Lal Mahal is historically known for an engagement between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Shaista Khan, in which Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj hacked off the latter's fingers while attempting to flee from the Lal Mahal's window.
