History
The beautiful wife of Mughal emperor Jodha Bai was also the mother of Jahangir. Jodha Bai was the eldest daughter of the Maharaja Bharmal of Aamer. Jodha Bai was honored with the title of Mariam-Uz-Zamani, after the birth of her third son Salim (Jahangir) in the year 1569. The Queen took her final breath in the year 1623. The tomb was finally built by Jahangir between 1623-1627. It was the last wish of her dying mother to be buried near her late husband Akbar. Jahangir fulfilled her wish by commencing her tomb near to that of Akbar.
Mariam-Uz-Zamani tomb place was originally a Baradari, which was built by Sikander Lodi in 1495. Baradari was later modified into the Mariam-Uz-Zamani tomb when Jahangir decided to reconstruct 4 facades of the structure in Mughal style.
Sikander Lodi built around forty chambers on the ground floor of Baradari. The original cenotaph of Jodha Bai can be located at the center of the ground floor.
Architecture
The Mariam-Uz-Zamani tomb place showcases an impressive combination of both Islamic and Hindu architectural design. Almost all of the tomb is built with Redstone and can be located at the center of the garden. The tomb has two corridors. The entire building of the Mariam-Uz-Zamani tomb is greatly supported by the massive pillars. A total of three stories are present in the tomb, at the first grave is there, a cenotaph on the middle floor, and a terrace with a garden is there on the third floor
Activities
The beautiful gardens of the tomb are properly maintained and a variety of trees are present. A total of 40 rooms are present on the ground floor, these rooms are something to see. Photographers love this place so much, the landscape at this place is something to capture in the camera lens. The hall housing cenotaph has some beautiful designs engraved on the walls. Long walks can be enjoyed at the walkways.
