History


The ghat has a mythological significance as it is believed that Goddess Durga tossed her sword here in the wake of killing the evil Mahishasura. Assi Ghat is also called Saimbeda Tirtha, and it is believed that a dip into this river during the month of Chaitra can be profoundly promising. The Assi Ghat has a Shiva Lingam set which is put underneath the Pipal Tree and is loved by pilgrims who come here.

Getting In varanasi

BY AIR

Varanasi does not have an airport of its own, hence the nearest airport is Babatpur. The airport is located at a distance of about 28.8km away and takes around 59 minutes to reach the ghat. You can hire a cab, or take a bus to reach the museum from the airport.

BY ROAD

Varanasi has good connectivity to nearby towns and cities by road and there are frequent buses running to and fro. The nearest bus stop is the Lahar Tara Chowraha located just 7.8 km away. You can choose to hire a cab or auto to reach the museum, alternatively.

BY RAIL

The Varanasi Junction is 6.7 km away from the ghat and it takes around 25 minutes to reach the ghat from the station. You can hire a cab, or take a bus to reach the ghat from the station.

Great service and friendly team

Our Rajasthan trip was very unorganized and from day 1 we need to argue for each committed hotel and details. Driver and hotel were not informed in advance and we need to pay 12000/- for the forceful event at the hotel which was never informed to us.
