History
The Bangalore Palace history is enticing. It is owned by the Mysore Royal Family. It was built in 1878 but the land was purchased by the King in 1873. The land was back then owned by a school Principal of the Central High School Bangalore. It is said that the land was purchased by the British Guardians of the Maharaja for INR 40,000. This land was purchased so that the administrative training of Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar X takes place smoothly. The construction of the Grand palace started in the year 1874.
By the year 1878 AD the construction was almost complete and the interior of the palace was being worked upon. In the following years, a lot of additions and improvements were made. When Maharaja Jayachamaraja became the King he ordered for the portion outside the Darbar Hall to be built. The renovation work was done to give the Bangalore Palace the essence of Windsor Castle. The King was taken aback by the beauty of the Windsor Castle and wanted India to have a Palace as grand as that. The Palace opened its gates for the commoners in 2005.
Architecture
The palace is surrounded by huge gardens and has a wooden interior. Two architectural styles have been thoughtfully merged to bring together what we call Bangalore Palace. The Scottish Gothic and the Tudor architecture will leave you mesmerized. A lot of elements used for the decoration of the palace are imported from Britain. The structures that inspired the King of Mysore to come up with the layout of this Palace were Windsor Castle, London, and the structures of Normandy and England.
The entrance of the Palace has Roman arches and the structure in itself has many shapes and detailed designs. The vine-covered walls are like the golden feather in the hat of the Bangalore Palace. These vines make the palace look like a palace situated in England. The palace has 34 bedrooms and a swimming pool along with a few watchtowers and turrets.
