Bhimtal Lake is named after Bhima, a mythological character in the epic Mahabharata, situated in the hills of Kumaon. The presence of Bhimeshwar Temple makes the town religiously important. The Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple located on the banks of Bhimtal Lake is believed to be built when the Bhima, who visited during the Pandavas’ exile. In the 17th century the king of Kumaon, Raja Baz Bahadur Chand built this present temple.

• Boating- Boating in the serene Bhimtal lake is one of the best activities that should be tried by every tourist there. Boating will help you to reach the tiny little island in the center of the Lake. 
• Cycling- To explore the surrounding beauty of Bhimtal Lake, travelers can try their hands at Cycling. 
• Trekking- Bhimtal Lake is surrounded by thick dense forests that provide trekking options for tourists. The picturesque view of the lake and surrounding valleys is worth trekking for. 
• Horse Riding- For horse riding, the Bara Pahar road is the most suitable at Bhimtal Lake. To explore the beautiful surroundings horses can be rented on an hourly basis. 
• Paragliding- A place named Naukuchiatal situated at a distance of 4 km from the Bhimtal Lake is famous for Paragliding.

• You can buy street food from the Kiosks near the Lake. 
• You can take permission from the Deputy Commissioner if you want to try fishing. 
• Pack some warm clothes because it gets chilly in the evening. 
• Don’t litter and spit in the lake, keep it pollution-free. 
• If you wish to avoid the crowd then do visit early in the morning.

You can visit Nainital throughout the year except the May month. During May the temperature gets too hot and humid which will make your excursion a little hectic. The winter season remains a bit chilly with temperatures going down to 1-degree celsius. Plan your visit according to the temperature of the season.

• Naini Lake- Naini Lake is one of the famous freshwater lakes in the Kumaon region in Uttarakhand. The name Nainital originates from the Naini Lake. This crystal clear lake attracts many tourists, poets, writers, and locals every year. 
• St. John’s Church- St. John is one of the oldest and finest churches in Nainital. This Neo-Gothic style church was built in 1846 and is one of the earliest structures built in Nainital. 
• The Mall Road- The Mall is situated in the heart of Nainital and is the city’s lifeline. With the benches, lampposts, shops, and eateries, The Mall is a major tourist attraction in Nainital.
