History
The Buddh International Circuit Noida was built after the agreement to host the Indian Grand Prix was finalized in 2007 by the Indian Olympic Association and Bernie Ecclestone, then chief executive of the Formula One Group. As per an estimate, approximately 2000 crore rupees were spent on the construction.
The freshly made race tracks could have heard the roaring engines and felt the screeching of tires for the first time in the 2010 Formula One season, but it was left out due to the unfinished construction. However, on 30 October 2011, the first Indian Grand Prix was held here and it was won by Sebastian Vettel of the Red Bull Racing. He also won the second Formula One race to take place at the circuit, during the 2012 Formula One season.
Architecture
The Buddh International Circuit Noida was officially inaugurated on 18 October 2011. It was designed by the German racetrack designer Hermann Tilke. The initial seating capacity of the track was 110,000, and it can expand up to 200,000.
The circuit is spread over an area of 874 acres, and the total length of the circuit is 5.125 km, with 16 turns. The circuit design was given the final shape after receiving feedback from the teams on how the circuit could be designed to improve overtaking.
