History
The great kachhwaha dynasty ruled the city of Jaipur and its nearby areas for a very long period. Many great rulers throughout history had led the clan. Amer was the capital of the many rulers of the dynasty before the Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. The Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II had decided to build a new capital for his empire in the year 1727, and the city was named Jaipur. Jaipur went on to replace Amer the former capital of the dynasty.
City Palace was also planned at the same time, as the official residence for the Royal family. City planners and astrologists from all over the world were invited by the Maharaja for the construction of his new capital. Diwan-e-Aam and Diwan-e-Khas are two of the meeting halls where the king use to meet people according to social hierarchy.
This beautiful palace has witnessed a lot of historical events taking place. After the death of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in the year 1744, Maharaja Ram Singh took charge of the dynasty and he went on to bring many changes in the Jaipur. The credit for the pink color of the city also goes to Ram Singh. To honor and welcome the king of Wales who later became King Edward VII the city was painted in pink color.
Architecture
City palace Jaipur is a marvelous piece of Mughal and Rajput architecture, that attracts tourists from all over the world. Red and pink sandstones are used in the construction of the palace. The world’s largest sterling silver vessels are also available in the palace and hold the Guinness world record for their size.

- Baggi khana houses the collection of some of the most antique cars in the world and also the vehicle that was used by the royal family. Pritam Niwas Chowk and Chandra mahal are also not to be missed.

- There is a silver vessel that weighs more than 300 kgs and has a capacity of more than 4000 liters. This vessel was used to carry water from the river Ganga.
