Jaigarh Fort

About Jaigarh Fort Jaipur

The Jaigarh Fort is a magnificent structure built above the 'Cheel ka Teela' hills in Jaipur's Pink City. Sawai Jai Singh II commissioned this spectacular structure to protect Amer Fort in 1726. It's a grandiose edifice cradled on the cliff's edge, surrounded by lush flora and enormous battlements. As it has never been conquered, this majestic fort is known as the 'Fort of Victory.' It is connected to Amer Fort via underground corridors. The fort now contains the world's largest cannon on wheels, the 'Jaivana,' and provides a spectacular perspective of Jaipur.

The Jaigarh fort in Jaipur, which was constructed and erected by a skilled architect named Vidhyadhar, is the strongest of the three forts and has never met any opposition. The fort is named for the emperor who ordered its construction, Sawai Jai Singh II, and it recalls the city's affluent past. The fort is also famed for the vast treasure that was said to be buried beneath it, in addition to its exquisite architecture. The treasure, on the other hand, is thought to have been seized in the 1970s by the Rajasthan government. Many monarchs lived there, and it was also used to house Rajput rulers' weaponry, artillery, and ammunition, as well as other military supplies.

History

Before the 10th century AD, when Meenas ruled, Dhundhar was Amer's name in the ancient and medieval times (meaning linked to a sacrificial mount on the western boundaries). Instead of the palace itself, the main defense structure was the Jaigarh Fort Jaipur, which is still visible today. The two sites are linked by a network of defenses and have been ruled by the Kachwahas since the 10th century.

During the Mughal period, the fort became the principal cannon factory, as well as a storage facility for ammunition and other war-related items. Beginning in 1658, the Mughal dynasty's various conflicts were defended by the Jaigarh fort's cannon outpost, until the guardian, Dara Shikoh, was deposed and slain by his brother, Aurangzeb.

When the fort was assigned to Jai Singh II, he is said to have shaped the spectacle 'Jaivana Cannon,' as well as utilizing the devices and foundries.

Architecture

The Jaigarh Fort is a piece of Mughal-Rajput-style architecture similar to Amer Fort. This is a massive and impressive building that stretches across a large area. Lalit Mandir, Vilas Mandir, Laxmi Vilas, and Aram Mandir are among the most attractive structures within the fort, which is protected by thick red sandstone walls. Two more temples, Ram Harihar, which was erected in the 10th century, and Kal Bhairav, which was built in the 12th century, add to the fort's allure. The 'Jaivana Cannon,' the world's largest cannon on wheels, and a magnificent palace complex are the place's principal attractions. A well-kept garden, as well as an armory and a museum, are available.
