History

Water plays a significant role in many Hindu ceremonies, hence most Hindu temples are built around water sources. These ancient water structures were also erected to conserve water around the temples for the same reason. Panna Meena Kund Jaipur is an example of the period's architecture and water-saving measures.

Although, no documented evidence for the Panna Meena Ka Kund history has been discovered. This is why locals have been given the freedom to fabricate stories. According to legend, Panna Miah was a courtesan in Maharaja Jai Singh's royal court in Amer Fort. This stepwell was built with his permission. According to legend, the Baori was built some 450 years ago in the 16th century. It was a reliable source of drinking water, particularly during dry spells. It's an eight-story stepwell with steps leading to the water on each level.

Another legend has the story for the Panna Meena ka Kund history that this ancient stepwell is named after Panna Meena, the Meena King. Every piece of Jaipur architecture has a backstory. This stepwell's name also has a fascinating backstory. The Meenas were Amer's first inhabitants, and they built the stepwell between the 10th and 11th centuries.

Architecture

The Panna Meena ka Kund architecture is unique. The most fantastic part about this area is that you can't go back up the steps you used to descend. If you're new to the region, the reasoning behind these tactics may be tough to comprehend.

The crisscross pattern of the stairs astonishes everyone, and it is one of the main reasons so many people visit this magnificent location every year. One of its distinguishing features is its subtle presence. As the steps are only on three sides, there is plenty of room to sit, speak, or take in the incredible view. A few design quirks, such as spaces between the stair floors, leave visitors perplexed as to why this structure was built. On each of the four corners are four octagonal pavilions called Chhatris.
