History
Shah Najaf Imambara's history is really simple and not so grand. The monument is known to be a copy of an Iraqi tomb of Najaf-e-Ashraf. This Imambara was established in the honor of Hazrat Ali. It was built under the supervision of Awadh’s first king Ghazi-Ud-Din Haider in 1816-1817. In the premise of this architectural marvel reside the remains of Nawab Ghazi-Ud-Din Haider and his three beloved wives.
Architecture
The huge and thoughtfully made Shah Najaf Imambara Lucknow, has white marble used in its flooring from the entrance gate to the doors of the Imambara. Shah Najaf Imambara’s structure was built using materials like rice husk, Lahori bricks, and almond lime.
A long passage leads to the verandah is beautifully shaped and designed, it is soothing to the eyes. As you start walking you will come across various doors, windows and walkways. The remains of the Nawab rest under the central dome in a large hall. Some beautifully carved mirrors have been brought to use to decorate the walls around the tombs.
