History
The history of this garden dates back to the 1800s when its foundation was laid as a royal garden by the then Nawab, Saadat Ali Khan. In 1827, the royal garden was improved upon by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah as his summer residence. The Bagh has a rich historical significance for it played a crucial role during the Indian Rebellion in 1857. It was used as a stronghold of sepoy mutineers and acted as a barrier in the way of the Commander-in-Chief Sir Colin Campbell's route to relieve the conquered Residency. However, during the rebellion, the two of the mighty gateways that were the entry and exit points of Sikandar Bagh were destroyed.
Architecture
The bagh is spread across 4.5 acres of land made of Lakhauri bricks and houses a mosque, a garden, and a small wooden pavilion for performers in the middle of the garden. The architecture of the villa is a unique amalgamation of Indian and Persian styles, with beautiful arches, pillars, pagodas, and all the intricacies.
