Read More on Tibetan Temple
History
Tibetan Temple, which was built in 1955, is one of Sarnath's most respected pilgrimage places. This prominent Buddhist temple in Sarnath is currently under the supervision of Lhadhan Chotrul Monlam Chenmo Trust and is located near the major market. The temple, which was built in a traditional Tibetan architectural style, has numerous outstanding features. The temple's entryway is wonderfully ornamented with elaborate sculptures of two lions and is guarded. As you approach the temple, you will notice a vast open compound with a pale pink stupa.
Tibetans claimed to have built the stupa to remember and express their thanks to the Indian government for granting the Dalai Lama sanctuary. Not only that but the stupa was also constructed to honor all individuals who gave their lives in the Tibetan Independence Movement.
Architecture
The temple's design features exquisite artwork of Buddhist deities on the temple's walls, making it a renowned Buddhist pilgrimage site in Sarnath. A big image of Sakyamuni Buddha in a reclining position can be found inside the temple complex. One of the main characteristics of the temple is the Tibetan Buddhist murals that adorn the walls and ceilings. Tibetan Temple, like most Buddhist shrines, has prayer wheels. The sacred chants printed on the paper scrolls are released when these wheels are rotated in a clockwise orientation.
