The tomb of Saadat Ali Khan was Built by his son to memorialize his father as nawab wazir of Oudh. The tomb is a beautiful blend of Indian and Islamic architectural styles. The tomb is located in Qaiser Bagh and is a combined mausoleum of both Saadat Ali Khan and his wife Khursheed Zadi. Saadat Ali Khan was the ruler of Awadh, and many of the heritage buildings around the area between Qaisar Bagh and Dilkusha was built by him. 

The main dome is crowned with a gilded finial, and the floor inside the tomb is covered with black and white marble. There are arched verandas on the southern and eastern sides of the building which house the graves of nawab's daughters and wives.

Saadat Ali Khan Maqbara is open for visitors from 5:00 am to 8:00 pm on all days. This attraction is near the famous Begum Hazrat Mahal Park. Due to the heritage buildings in the city, it is quite easy to overlook this wonderful memorial. However, it is only upon visiting this tomb that you find out what you were missing out on!

History


The Maqbara of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan was built by his son as a memoir for his late father. The tomb is located close to the Begum Hazrat Mahal Park. It houses the Nawab of Awadh, Saadat Ali Khan, and his favorite wife, Khurshid Zadi. Saadat Ali Khan was the ruler of Awadh from  1794 to 1814 AD, during this period the British ruled large parts of Lucknow and were becoming more powerful with each passing day.

Architecture


Being one of the best tourist spots in Lucknow, the tomb of Saadat Ali Khan and his wife Khurshid Zadi is not to be missed out on. And one of the major reasons for it being one of the best places is due to its splendid architecture.

It is decorated with lime plaster, and the walls are built using Lakhori bricks while the floors are made of sandstone. The entrance to the tom has a rectangular verandah with intricately carved arched doorways. The floor of the tomb is made of rare and precious black and white marble tiles, much like the chess pattern. The tomb has a hemispherical dome with a symmetrical shape which is topped by an inverted lotus.
