The legislative assembly and legislative council of the princely state of Mysore were established in 1881 and 1907, respectively, as the princely state's two houses of the legislature. Sessions of the two houses were held in Mysore (with joint sessions held in the Bangalore Town Hall) until India gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947, when Mysore acceded to India. 

The state capital was shifted to Bangalore, and the two houses were moved to Attara Kacheri, a British-built facility in Cubbon Park that housed the Mysore High Court. There was a desire for more spacious legislative quarters than Attara Kacheri, and in April 1951, construction began. Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, laid the building's foundation stone on July 13, 1951.

The assembly and the council were supposed to be housed in a two-story edifice. Hanumanthiah oversaw and ordered various specific parts of the building, one of which was the inscription on the entablature of the front facade of Government Work Is God's Work and its Kannada counterpart. The finished design was meant to stunt the closest British-built Attara Kacheri, which now assists as the Karnataka High Court's seat. This was about the Vidhana Soudha Bangalore history.

The Vidhana Soudha Bangalore, which covers 60 acres, features a gilded and exuberant Neo-Dravidian architecture style, with splashes of Indo-Saracenic architecture freshening up the scene with sheer grandeur. The edifice, which is surrounded by lush green manicured lawns, is made entirely of granite and porphyry and consists of four upper levels and one basement with a total of 172 rooms. The total floor area is over 47,000 square meters!

The four-headed lion, our country's national symbol, adorns the building's entrance. The broad steps that go up to the entrance are one of the most appealing features of the Vidhana Soudha's interiors. To reach the large Assembly Chambers, you have to climb up on the foyer for around forty-five steps, 200 feet wide and 70 feet deep.

On Sunday evenings and other events, the entire edifice of the Vidhana Soudha is illuminated by a million colorful lights which can be visible in the evening hours of 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Thousands of people travel to see this spectacular light show, which has a multitude of brilliant lights illuminating the structure as well as colorful spotlights blasting across the sky.

• You should wear comfortable shoes because you will be walking for several hours.
• Bangalore is prone to heavy rains and downpours. As a result, it is always a good idea to bring an umbrella or a raincoat with you to protect yourself from sudden rain showers.
