History, Culture, and Traditions of Rishikesh:

This divine city has connections with a Hindu deity, Lord Ram. The Ayodhya Naresh performed penance on this land after he killed the Lanka Naresh, Ravana. Rishikesh was always there as one of the pilgrim spots but it came into the spotlight after the Beatles stopped here to stay at an ashram which is now known as The Beatles Ashram.

Today people who visit Rishikesh do go to the Beatles Ashram and often people from around the world come here to learn yoga at an expert level so that they can spread this art further. You often see foreigners here during the yoga festival. Wandering around in the streets of Rishikesh or walking along the banks of the river Ganga on the white sand, is soul calming experience in itself. The Ganga may seem calm and beautiful but once you take a dip in the cold river you realize that the water seems calm only from the outside. The sound of the flowing river is like music to the ears of the people who care to listen. This river has its ways of showing her different moods sometimes as calming as the moon, sometimes it seems furious when it flows with a lot of speed, and sometimes it is just flowing, creating its own path and flowing at its own speed without caring about what others of her. Last but not least remember to attend the Ganga aarti at the Triveni Ghat. Rishikesh tourism has been increasing with every passing year due to the ambiance and the warmth this place holds.

This ashram was established by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and the Beatles had attended his seminar somewhere after which they ended up planning to attend the meditation camp conducted by Maharishi himself. In these camps, he taught them the art of Transcendental Meditation. It is said that the band wrote some of the best songs of their life here.
