History
The temple was constructed by Rao Jodha at the time when he was building the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur. The Chamunda Mata story behind the temple construction is something that you should be aware of. The Chidiya Toonk hill where he chose to build this fort was occupied by the hermit but he was forcefully removed from there, as a result, he cursed Rao Jodha that his fort will always face a shortage of water.
The king was very disturbed after witnessing this and in order to balance this curse given by the saint, he decided to build the Chamunda Devi Mandir inside the fort complex to protect the fort and its people. From that day onwards Goddess Chamunda Devi was the main deity of the Rajputs rulers of Jodhpur.
