The Corjuem fort’s history is rich and worth listening to. The fort is often visited by history lovers, trekkers, and visitors. The fort was built in 1550 and was ruled by the Bhonsle rulers. The Portuguese administration of Goa annexed the fort and then the fort was rebuilt by the colonists in 1705. They did so to strengthen their defenses and the fort we see today is this one.
 
In the 18th century, it is said that the fort played an important role during the Maratha invasions. This fort was also used as a military school back in those days. It had a small battalion of its own and defended the town of Corjuem. The strong-headed lady Ursula e Lancaster disguised herself as a man and became a soldier here. Her disguise was later revealed when she was imprisoned and stripped. She then ended up marrying the Captain of guards.

Corjuem fort Architecture is simple yet elegant. The fort is constructed using laterite stone and is square-shaped. The walls are thick and sturdy, they have many gun holes and the four corners of the fort have areas for cannons to be placed and used easily. There is not much left of the fort but the ruins still possess the charm the fort held back then. The fort has ramps so that people can walk around freely. 

The fort has quarters for the defenders and a church that is dedicated to St. Anthony. The Mapusa river and the cable bridge add to the beauty of the fort. The picturesque view is worth cherishing and the nature that surrounds the fort makes the visitors feel closed to and loved by mother nature.

The fort is approx.12 km northeast of Panjim. The Corjuem fort Goa timings are from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm even though it is open 24 hours a day. The best time to visit Goa is from September to March, mainly during the winter season. The summers here can get harsh and humid causing a hindrance to your daily itinerary. You can visit the fort during the morning or evening hours. The fort is built near the Mapusa river making it picturesque.
