History
Admiral RH Tahiliani (Retd), the first navy pilot to land a Hawker Sea Hawk fighter aircraft on the deck of the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, dedicated the Indian Naval Aviation Museum history on October 12, 1998. Further, the museum has evolved over the years and now houses 14 different types of aircraft as well as other displays.
The Super Constellation aircraft, which prepared the way for the Indian Navy to take over maritime patrol operations from the Indian Air Force, is on display at the museum.
Architecture
The museum's interior is designed to resemble the interior of the INS Viraat, a naval aircraft carrier, and features several interesting galleries featuring naval equipment, famous battles, a simulation room, and a large granite plaque honoring those brave souls who gave their lives in the service of their country.
Activities
See a collection of arms and armaments
The museum's first room houses a variety of weapons and weaponry, such as bombs, torpedoes, rockets, warheads, depth charges, and so on.
Check the Multimedia room and Suraksha room
The Multimedia room, which also houses the Jet cockpit simulator, is perhaps the most interesting. This program allows visitors to simulate being in the cockpit of a fighter jet. The floating dinghy, parachute, ejector seat, pilot's overalls, and other items used for protection when at sea and in the air may be found in the Suraksha chamber.
Take a look at Photo Gallery
A photo display in the museum remembers all of the significant naval conflicts that have occurred since the founding of the Indian Navy. A breathtaking series of black and white images depict Goa's freedom war, particularly 'Operation Vijay.'
Roam outside gallery of the Museum
The outdoor exhibition features a display of 13 aircraft, including planes and helicopters, as well as aircraft engines and parts. Short Sealand Mk 2 (IN 106), Fairey Firefly TT Mk1 (IN 112), de Havilland Vampire T-55 (IN 149), Breguet Alizé (IN 202), Hughes Hu-300 (IN 083), Lockheed L1049G Super Constellation (IN 315), and Sea Harrier FRS.51 (IN 621) are a few of the crafts amongst those 13 crafts that are worth seeing.
