History
The Sardar Government Museum of Jodhpur was built by Maharaja Umaid Singhji in 1909 and was opened to the public in the year 1936. The museum has an interesting compilation of antique artifacts that displays the rich history of the Jodhpur region. The brilliant architecture of the place is due to the genius mind of Henry Vaughan Lanchester, he was an Edwardian architect of immense repute.
The museum is host to a splendid range of collectibles from the past that includes ancient arts and crafts, textile fabrics, miniature portraits, and weapons that were used by the royals during ancient times. The museum also displays images of famous Jain Tirthankars. Visitors eagerly wait to have a view of the stuffed animals and birds which are displayed in glass cases. It also houses antique 400 sculptures of stone, thousands of miniature paintings, 10 ancient inscriptions, about a dozen attractive terracotta.
