History
Built over 400 years ago, Ahar Cenotaphs, also known as the royal cremation ground is a legacy of the Mewar Kingdom. Nineteen rulers of the Mewar dynasty have been cremated in this historical ground.
The last cenotaph was constructed in 2004 for the cremation of Maharana Bhagwat Singh. The Ahar Cenotaphs Udaipur feature on the list of every tourist because of its glorious history connecting to the Mewar dynasty. Various Hollywood directors chose this place to be featured in their movies due to its marvelousness.
In order to restore the legacy of ancestors of the Mewar dynasty, Arvind Singh Mewar carried out the restoration work in the late 1990s. Multiple programs were organized to reinstate its past glory. Ahar Archaeological museum was constructed in the series showcasing various aspects of the great Mewar Kingdom. The Museum is home to ancient artifacts, some of which are from the 10th century.
