History

Sir George Everest called it his house and laboratory. From 1830 to 1843, he served as the Surveyor-General of India. Sir George purchased the Park Estate on the western outskirts of Mussoorie in 1833 and lived there for about a decade before going to England.

Sir George was significantly responsible for the completion of the Great Trigonometric Survey of India segment that ran from the south of India to Nepal following the meridian arc. Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first people to successfully climb Mount Everest. They later renamed this peak Mount Everest in honor of Sir George Everest. The residence is located in an area with panoramic views of the Doon Valley on one side and the snow-capped Himalayan mountains on the other.

Architecture

The Indian National Trust's conservation architects are currently working on this project and have taken control of it. Iron grills have been installed to secure the house. Without authorization, no one can enter the house. A toll booth has been erected, implying that entering the land may be costly. The walls of the house are painted and covered with graffiti regularly.

Great service and friendly team

Our Rajasthan trip was very unorganized and from day 1 we need to argue for each committed hotel and details. Driver and hotel were not informed in advance and we need to pay 12000/- for the forceful event at the hotel which was never informed to us.
