History
The ruler of Udaipur, Maharaja Jagat Singh undertook the construction of the Shri Jagdish Temple, his rule over the city lasted from 1628 to 1653. Interestingly, the temple was built on a small terrace, and the construction was finally over by the year 1651. The beautiful temple is constructed in accordance with the Hindu architectural science of Vastushastra. Even in those tough times, the ruler had spent over INR 15 Lakhs on the construction of this colossal structure, this shows the importance of the temple for the Royals.
The temple is associated with many legends and one such legend is of the slab of marble, which is placed at the entry point where the stairway to the main temple complex starts. Tourists and locals are often spotted rubbing their knees, shoulders, or back against the marble slab. As per popular belief, the marble slab possesses a magical ability to heal any sort of body aches.
Architecture
The Jagdish Temple Udaipur is a three-storied architectural marvel that boasts beautifully adorned ceilings, intricately carved pillars, and large airy halls. The temple structure is an excellent example showcasing the amazing Maha Meru or the Meru-Gurjara style of architecture. Three massive stories of the hand-carved stone increase the beauty of the temple.
The main temple is about 79 feet in height and is ornamented with sculptures of elephants and musicians. Both the first and second floors of the Jagdish temple possess fifty intricately carved pillars.

- You can take part in Aarti, which takes place two times a day.
- You are free to take pictures on the temple premises.
- Try to spend some time in the main hall and listen to the Bhajans (devotional songs) that are played there.

- Alcohol and non-veg items are strictly prohibited inside the temple.
- Remove your shoes outside the temple.

- During Aarti time, the temple gets a bit crowded. So take care of your belongings.
