History
The Jagmandir Island Palace is a 17th century historic Palace. The bedrock of the palatial palace was kept by Maharana Amar Singh- the ruler of the Mewar kingdom. The structure was completed by Maharana Jagat Singh I. In the year 1623 Khurram or better known as Shah Jahan sought refuge in this yellow sandstone palace under the reign of Maharana Karan Singh.
The Jagmandir was named after Maharana Jagat Singh to honor him. He was plausible for completing the Jagmandir after adding a few more structures to the palace. It later served as a refuge palace during the Revolt of 1857.
Architecture
The Jagmandir Palace stands enchantingly amidst the alluring Lake Pichola. This baronial edifice is constructed in the Rajput-Mughal blend of architecture. The three-storied country seat confected with yellow sandstone leaves its visitors spellbound. The three-storied structure comprises the most famous Gul Mahal, the Garden courtyard, Darikhana, Bara Pathron ka Mahal, the Zenana Mahal, and the Kunwar Pada is Mahal.
The Gul Mahal is fabricated in the Mughal style of architecture. It is a dome-shaped structure with the crescent of Islam stabilized on the top.
The entire edifice is carved with intricate carvings and designs, paintings, and murals. The entry pavilion to the palace is an impressive white colonnade of cusped arches. The pavilion has 8 standing elephants carved in stone, 4 on each side of the entry steps. The Jagmandir palace also embodies a sublime garden adorned with palm trees, roses, jasmines, and Bougainvilleas.

In terms of seasons, the best time to visit the Jagmandir, Udaipur is from the months of September to March due to the winter season and in order to experience the true magic and beauty of this place. On a daily schedule, the best time to visit the Jagmandir is from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
