History
Saheliyon Ki Bari Udaipur was constructed by the Maharana Sangram Singh of Udaipur in the early 18th century, especially for the Princess and her 48 maids who accompanied her after her marriage with Maharana Sangram Singh. The Maharana wanted to provide a special garden to his Queen, where she can spend some time with her maidens and relax. The Maharana himself designed the beautiful garden and gifted it to his beautiful Queen.
The king knew the Queen was fond of the sound of rain. So, the design and the location of the garden were a proper match. Located on the banks of the Fateh Sagar Lake, the fountains and the lotus pond had a continuous source of water.
Architecture
The entrance to the Saheliyon Ki Bari Udaipur has two beautiful fountains on both sides of the gate welcoming visitors into the regal world of the Mewar royalties. The design of the garden has been personally supervised by the Maharana himself, inculcating all the aspects of nature that his beloved Queen loved. Various fountains were incorporated to replicate the sound of the rain because the Queen loved it.
The garden also housed various marble statues and sculptures. The famous lotus pond of the garden has four fountains, where elephants project water from their trunks.
