History


Sarkhej Roza, one of the most magnificent places of worship, attracts a large number of people who come to witness its unique architecture. A significant Muslim landmark in Makarba, it delivers a sense of tranquilly to all visitors.

For a long time, Hindus ruled Sarkhej hamlet and were mostly interested in weaving and dying. Ahmed Khattu Ganj Baksh, Sultan Ahmed Shah's advisor and close friend, was a prominent Sufi saint who remained here for a long time during his latter years. He is reported to have lived until 1445, ]he died at the age of 111. Sultan Muhammad Shah II built a mausoleum and mosque in honour of the Saint at this location, which was finished by his son Qutbuddin Ahmed Shah II in 1451 AD.

Architecture


Visitors can visit the Baradari in the open courtyard after entering through the main gate. The exquisite structure is supported by sixteen pillars and features nine domes. The Archaeological Survey of India rebuilt it after it was destroyed in the earthquake of 2001.

The Sarkhej Roza is an amazing monument and one of the best examples of Indo-Saracenic architecture. It contains the tombs of Saint Ahmed Khattu Ganj Baksh, King Mohammad Shah Begada, and his queen, and is known as the Acropolis of Ahmedabad. The Mausoleum of Saint Ganj Baksh, popularly known as Dargah, stands at a height of 105 feet and is Gujarat's largest. The dargah has a beautiful dome with a peepal leaf on top, making it an auspicious location. Small tombs of the saint's pupils are also housed in the Dargah, including Ganj Baksh's spiritual heir, Sheikh Salahuddin.

Great service and friendly team

Our Rajasthan trip was very unorganized and from day 1 we need to argue for each committed hotel and details. Driver and hotel were not informed in advance and we need to pay 12000/- for the forceful event at the hotel which was never informed to us.
