History
The 750th Swaminarayan temple in India was dedicated in the city on Monday, October 7, 2013, following two days of Vedic mantra chanting and rituals. The temple, which is located in Wathoda near the Middle Ring Road, is the largest of the Swaminarayan Sanstha's over 1,000 temples around the world.
The Sanstha, which was founded in 1907 and is led by the 93-year-old Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the fifth successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, has millions of followers around the world. The congregation is dominated by Gujaratis because BAPS, which stands for Bochanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha, was founded in Gujarat.
Architecture
Donations from local devotees covered 80% of the cost of constructing this gigantic edifice. "On the request of our followers, we established a residential school here a decade ago. This temple was also built in response to their desire." The construction work began on January 28, 2008, five years ago. The temple also has a yatri Niwas, sadhu sadan, and a food court that will take some time to complete."
