History
The Vintage & Classic Car Collection was unveiled to the general public on 15 February 2000. It was Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, founder of the National Motor Museum in England who inaugurated it. The museum shows various aspects of the opulent lifestyle of the Maharanas of Mewar by displaying all the vehicles belonging to them in both past and present.
The car collection is housed in the former Mewar State Motor Garage, currently serving as a museum. Garden Hotel and Restaurant is also contained within the garage's grounds, it the property of HRH Group of Hotels, Udaipur. One of the original Shell petrol pumps, which surprisingly is still in usable condition. Some of the vehicles are over seventy years old, still, each one is kept in working condition.
Architecture
The Vintage Car Museum Udaipur is of a semi-circular shape and has a forecourt, both of them are housed within a greater courtyard. The building only has a single floor, painted in yellowish color. At the entrance of the museum, there are two large gates, located adjacent to each other.
The museum displays classic cars like Rolls Royce, MG-TC Convertible, Cadillacs, Ford-A Convertible, and Vauxhall-12.
