History
Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra was built by Qutub-ud-Din-Aibak, the first Sultan of Delhi, it is a historic mosque with an interesting past. Adhai Din ka Jhonpra is a relic of an old historic mosque that was constructed with remains of the nearby Hindu and Jain temples. The site where the historic mosque stands today was originally a Sanskrit college built by Vigraharaja IV before 1153 CE.
Though most of the ancient Hindu and Jain temples are in ruins today, the area of the mosque is still used by the Muslims for worship. Having arched screens, ruined minarets, and beautiful pillars this is a place to visit.
Architecture
Adhai Din ka Jhopra Ajmer has 10 domes supported by 124 pillars. The walls of the main hall are beautifully designed into small screens to allow the light to enter. The interior of the place is more like a Hindu temple, where you can see the main hall is supported by numerous columns.
The columns possess an uncommon design, they are heavily decorated and are quite similar to Hindu and Jain rock-carved temples. If one notices properly, they will find a small Sanskrit inscription on top of the main gate of the building that reminds the actual origin of this historic complex.
