History

The renowned Mughal Emperor Akbar constructed Akbar's Palace in 1570 AD. It was constructed to house the King on his journeys to Ajmer and pilgrimages. The two massive stone walls that surrounded Akbar's Palace rendered it almost impregnable and unattackable. The Palace is significant in Ajmer's history since it served as the venue for Emperor Jahangir's historic encounter with Sir Thomas Roe of the British East India Company. Akbar's Palace was turned into a munitions house and dubbed the Rajputana Arsenal during the British occupation of Ajmer.

Architecture

Ajmer's Akbar's Palace is regarded as a marvel of architecture. Several chambers in the palace have been discovered to be lavishly furnished. The stone walls that encircle the Palace are made out of a double-storey bastion surrounded by a chain of columns. The turret is made up of a substantial core that leads to many rooms.

As part of an Ajmer excursion, Hindu figurines from the 6th and 7th centuries can be seen in the museum. The museum houses a magnificent black marble idol of Goddess Kali, as well as military gear and weapons. The Palace Museum houses not only a magnificent collection of weapons and armors but also some of the most valuable stone sculptures in the world. Within the palace, there is also a library that acts as a key center for learning and acquiring information about Akbar's Palace.
