History
Rishikesh Ashram Parmarth Niketan's history is one of a kind. It is said to be one of the largest ashrams in Uttarakhand. Pujya Swami Divyanand Ji Maharaj was the person behind the establishment of the ashram in 1942. He came up with the ashram to provide his followers and people interested, with a sense of spirituality and to enlighten them with the importance of knowing oneself. He wanted them to experience the bliss of a peaceful mind and learn ways to lead a balanced life.
Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji Maharaj has acted as the spiritual leader of the ashram since 1986. He has given the ashram the vibe of a home away from home.
Architecture
The Parmarth Niketan Ashram is spread across a huge area and consists of halls for various activities like Satsang, spiritual talks, kirtans, meditation sessions, and yoga classes. They also have a spacious reception area and a huge dining area. The campus has various lush green lawns and beautifully carved statues. The huge amount of greenery that surrounds the campus adds up to its beauty. The main entry gate is beautifully carved and gives a very welcoming vibe.
The ashram offers 1000 rooms of various categories and people who plan to reside on campus can choose any one of them. They have a ghat of their own where resides a 14-feet tall statue of Lord Shiva on a bridge that is connected to the ghat. The Kalpavrikha that stands tall in the ashram is said to boost the sense of spirituality and calmness.
