The Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History is situated in Sawai Madhopur, near Ranthambore, in Rajasthan. It was established in the year 2007 and was opened to the public in 2014. It is a museum to depict the natural history of Rajasthan.
In the land of history and monuments, this natural history museum is an addition. The museum is aimed to emerge as an important center for environmental knowledge and the creation of public awareness of the conservation of nature and natural resources in the country.

The Rajiv Gandhi Museum is stretched over 7.2 acres and is designed to create awareness of diverse energy on Earth. The museum is three floors and they display a variety of flora, fauna, mineral wealth, and geology of western arid regions of India. Tourists who visit here are attracted by the effigy of tiger, leopard, blackbuck, sambhar deer, spotted deer, etc. You would also get to see live village scenes here. In addition to it, the museum has an art gallery and pottery area, where tourists can enjoy the live art of pottery making and painting. Paintings and potteries made here are also available for sale. 

The museum also possesses a library that has over 10,000 books about nature and wildlife. Occasionally wildlife documentaries and seminars are conducted here in the 300 pax auditorium. The Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum timings begin at 10 am and close by 6 pm. On Mondays and national holidays, the museum is kept closed.

History


The Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum history is not that very old. The former Vice President of India, Mohammad Hamid Ansari laid the foundation stone for the Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum for Natural History, on 23rd December 2007. It was inaugurated by Namo Narain Meena, the former state Finance Minister on 1st March 2014. The project was under the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change. This is the fourth Natural History Museum in India, after Mysore, Bhopal, and Bhubaneswar.
 

Architecture


The Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum Ranthambore is built in a Rajasthani architectural style and has three floors that display plants, livestock, mineral resources, and the geology of the western arid region. The ground floor has one gallery. Opposite the reception area, there is a library where visitors can pick any and reach books related to nature and wildlife from over 10,000 collections. The auditorium inside the museum can accommodate around 300 people.

Great service and friendly team

Our Rajasthan trip was very unorganized and from day 1 we need to argue for each committed hotel and details. Driver and hotel were not informed in advance and we need to pay 12000/- for the forceful event at the hotel which was never informed to us.
