History
Close to the famous Vashisht temple, Jogini waterfall with a stream that joins the river Beas in the Valley of Kullu. The waterfall derives its name from the Goddess of the village Jogini. The area around the water is very sacred and holy because one of the Shakti Peethas fell here. This place is the local center for feminine power.
Shakti Peethas are considered holy places in the Hindu religion. According to sacred Hindu texts, it is a place where Lord Shiva’s Wife’s body fell, Devi was called Sati and, when she died, Lord Shiva could not stop mourning her demise. Lord Vishnu saw Lord Shiva in a destructive state and decided to cut Devi Sati’s body into 51 pieces and they fell across different parts of India. There are a total of 51 Shakti Peethas all over the country.
