History
As per Sikhs, once Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism came to Manikaran with his disciple, Mardana. When Mardana felt really hungry Guru Nanak Dev Ji asked him to collect some food for the langar. Villagers were so kind towards the disciple and they offered him raw vegetables and flour, unfortunately, there was no sign of fire to cook food.
The great Guru then asked his disciple to shift a mysterious stone from its place. He shifted the stone and the magnificent hot spring came out. The temperature of boiling water was more than enough to cook food.
On seeing the rice and pieces of bread (roti) kept sinking in hot water, Guru Nanak told “Mardana” to pray that if this bread floats back, he will be donating this bread in his name indeed. After witnessing the miracle Mardana was extremely joyful and he cooked his food happily. The Manikaran Sahib is very famous among the Hindus and Sikhs for pilgrimage.
