Read More on Manu Temple
History
Sage Manu, as per folklore, cleansed his hands after finding a little carp fish in a river. The fish was Lord Vishnu disguised as a fish, pleading the sage to save him. To save the carp, the sage placed it in a bowl. The fish grew too wide to fit inside the container, so he transferred it to a larger bowl. On the other hand, the fish continued to grow large, and the sage ultimately took the carp to the sea. Lord Vishnu then arrived in his true form and alerted Sage Manu of the impending flood which would sweep out all life on earth. He subsequently constructed a boat large enough to house his family and 9 distinct types of animals, seeds, and birds. He returned to Earth from his ship after the catastrophe and meditated. The Manu Temple was built in the place where he has been thought to have meditated.
Architecture
The chapel is a pyramidal edifice that, along with its intriguing construction, provides a peek into heritage and devotion. The design of the Manu Temple is in the pagoda style, which is prevalent mostly in the majority of temples in Himachal Pradesh. The stacked structure or declining timber roof, which resembles Nepalese monasteries, is the most notable feature of this edifice. Manu Temple's structure is primarily built of timber and cement, and it represents the former glory of Pagoda design that emerged from Stupas. The Pagodas are also thought to be devil traps since they draw thunder during thunderstorms by acting as lightning rods.
