History
The history of Vashisht Hot Water & Springs Temple is mythical. It is believed that the Vashisht Himachal Pradesh village was named after Rishi Vashisht who was one of the seven sages of Hinduism. He was overpowered by depression when he found out that his children were killed by Vishwamitra. It is said that subsequently Rishi Vashisht tried to commit suicide by jumping into the river, but the river did not take his life. Thus, Rishi then started to live a new life in the village. The name of the river which led the Rishi to this village was later titled Vipasha. The meaning of the word Vipasha is freedom from bondage.
